This version of{\color{blue} \textbf{Freeduc-cd}} has been designed
with the help of \textsc{unesco} and comes with an accompanying document
consisting of English, Spanish and French booklets.
\medskip
\textbf{Freeduc-cd} provides an effective GNU/Linux system without
modifying your hard disk's contents. Your PC must be configured
to boot from the CDROM drive (this is configured in your BIOS).
\medskip
\textbf{Freeduc-cd} enables the user to get acquainted with a free
system (free as in \emph{freedom}) and to try some of the outstanding
\emph{free software available for educational purposes}. Some of
these were developed specifically for the world of education, such as
\emph{Dr.~Geo} and \emph{GCompris}, two projects of \textsc{ofset}.
Some of the other applications included, although not specifically for
education, are well suited to the purpose: \emph{Open Office}, for
instance, and many others too.
\medskip
You access a \emph{graphical desktop} (known as XFCE). At the bottom
of the screen an application bar includes "drawers" which bring
similar classes of applications together:
%changed domain to class as domain is too well-known as MS networking model
% FIXME: when using the itemize environnemnt
% we have a too big space between line
\begin{verbatim}
- basic computer access
- Internet
- mathematics
- sciences
- audio
- technology
- geography
- languages
- educational games
- edition and help tool.
\end{verbatim}
%edition? What is meant by this?
\medskip
To open a drawer, just click on the small arrow
situated above each icon. A further click will close the drawer.
A click on the icon of the drawer spawns the key application of the
class.

{\color{red} \small IMPORTANT NOTICE !}
\medskip
\textbf{Freeduc-cd} has been designed for standard, recent PCs with
microprocessors like Pentium II-III, Celeron, Athlon or Duron. In a
few cases it does not work with the default settings (when the
hardware is unusual or very recent). The boot process can be adapted
by options, such as the locale code "en" which will boot Freeduc in
English.
To know the list of supported hardware please see the internet site
\texttt{www.knoppix.org}
As the random access memory (RAM) is intensively used, performance
depends on it: at least 64 Mb. The speed of the CDROM drive is also a
factor.
