Installing Gnome 2.2 in Skolelinux

1. Edit the /etc/apt/sources.list to uncomment the various deb ... line
2. apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade
3. Add "deb http://mirror.raw.no/ gnome2.2/" at the end of /etc/apt/sources.list
4. apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. This step will removed some Skolelinux task- packaqes, it does not removed any application but upgrade package which are dependencies of the task- ones.
5. apt-get install gnome-core

I also like to replace kdm by gdm. In this case do apt-get install gdm then edit the gdm package as follow:

Search for xdmcp in the /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file, and turn the line as follow:

[xdmcp]
Enable=true

Also to get gdm to authenticate against LDAP, you need to replace the gdm PAM configuration by the kdm one.
