Wished feature for Skolelinux

Andreas, here is a small wish list.

Wish #1

If the authentication mechanism and the ldap schemas in SkoleLinux and the one in SambaEdu/SLAES/AbulEdu/Slis could be merged, it would be a noticeable step towards interoperation. (SkoleLinux, SambaEdu and AbulEdu 1.4 are Debian based. New version of SLAES will be Debian based. AbulEdu does not yet use ldap so far)

As far as you know, Hilaire, would it be a big challenge ?

Another wish would be about an information : to know whether somebody in the Skolelinux team is working on authentication and grading to enable distributed application to deal with exercises for the students.

I shall work on this topic in order to output a robust mechanism able to share exercise monitoring and grade tracking between two exercise servers authored by different people :

• Ganesha -- more precisely the variant developed at University of Littoral and Côte d'Opale in France, see http://pedago.univ-littoral.fr/jean_bart.html, user test, password test
• Wims which is very powerful for developing exercises in the fields of sciences and maths, see http://www.unice.fr/wims/

Are there any exercise servers linked to the developments of Skolelinux, and can we discuss about interoperation very early ?

Integrate a solution to manage the school into SkoleLinux (something like SchoolTool http://www.schooltool.org/ for example) with a strong ldap integration

This later project emcoppasses many wishes indeed that should be phased separately

Integrate the thin client configuration in the LDAP directory. The lts.conf file could be regenerate from the LDAP directory when something change. If printer are recorded as well in the LDAP directory we can have cool things as automatic defaut printer depending on the used thin client. I have written LDAP schema to record the LTSP attributes (already sent to devel@skolelinux.no)

Squid guard configured to fetch black list.

Wish #7

A plugin system in the administration tool to let locale people write a small plugin to import the school data (teacher, student, classroom, lesson) from the school administration tools.

Wish #8

Integrate Qt 3.x, GTK+ 2.x, KDE 3.x and Gnome 2.x libraries, a lot of interesting applications are using these ones (not to mention GCompris and DrGeo :-)

It could be included in the CD-Rom or available in a dedicated repository, but we need to take care of conflict problems with the task packages.

Enable sound in thin client. It should be an option so if any bandwidth problem occurs, it can be unset
